Tuffo del Fiordo Cliff-Diving Festival

Each summer the narrow bridge spanning the Fiordo di Furore transforms into a competition platform for the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series stop, where elite athletes plunge up to 27 metres into the sea below. Even if you visit outside competition season, watching locals leap from the rocks is electrifying.

The Competition

The Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series has featured Furore as a stop since 2009, drawing tens of thousands of spectators who crowd the cliffs, the bridge and chartered boats below. Athletes perform acrobatic dives from a platform fixed to the bridge arch, entering the water at speeds approaching 85 km/h.

The event is free to watch from the roadside and bridge area, though space is extremely limited. Many fans hire local fishing boats to watch from the water — a surreal vantage point looking straight up at the divers.

Visiting Outside the Festival

The fjord beach is swimmable and beautiful all summer long, and local teenagers still leap from the lower rock ledges into the cove — a tradition that predates the international competition by decades.

Check the Red Bull Cliff Diving official schedule (redbull.com/cliffdiving) for exact dates, which shift year to year. The event typically falls on a Saturday or Sunday in late July or early August.
