The story

The smell of the Atlantic hits you before your coffee does on that first Cape Town morning — salt, kelp, something almost electric. Table Mountain watches from above like a patient chaperone as you work your way east, pausing in Hermanus where southern right whales breach so close to the clifftops you feel the spray. Stellenbosch slows everything down with red wine and golden light filtering through oak canopies older than the country itself.

By Knysna the landscape has softened into something almost dreamlike — the lagoon shifting between jade and copper depending on the hour, the Heads standing guard at the mouth like ancient sentinels. Tsitsikamma sharpens your senses again: suspension bridges swaying above dark gorges, the Storms River roaring beneath your feet, forests so dense and green they feel primordial.

Then Addo delivers its quiet miracle — a hundred elephants moving through thornveld at dusk, unhurried and enormous. Port Elizabeth arrives gently, the Indian Ocean glittering farewell, the whole journey still humming somewhere inside your chest.
