Lesaka Weekly Market (Mercado Semanal)

Every Tuesday morning the streets around Plaza Zaharra fill with the scent of fresh txistorra sausage and rain-washed vegetables brought down from the surrounding Cinco Villas farmsteads. It is one of the most authentic small-town markets in northern Navarre.

What to buy and taste

Local farmers stack stalls with pimientos del piquillo, fat white asparagus in season (April–June), and hand-tied bunches of herbs. Artisan cheese-makers from the Bertizarana valley bring young and cured idiazabal-style sheep's cheeses that you can taste before you buy.

The txistorra here is made with coarsely ground pork and seasoned with smoked paprika; grab a length from the butcher's stall and ask the nearest bar to grill it for you with your morning coffee — they will oblige without hesitation.

Timing and atmosphere

Arrive before 10:00 to catch the widest selection and to watch the market set up — a social ritual as much as a commercial one, with neighbours catching up across vegetable crates. By noon most fresh produce is gone and stallholders are packing up.

The market spills onto Calle Mayor in wet weather, sheltered by the deep eaves of the traditional Navarrese houses that line the street, making it a viable outing even in the drizzly Pyrenean autumn.
