Jazz à Juan Festival
Every July since 1960, the Pinède Gould — a natural amphitheatre of umbrella pines right on the seafront — has hosted Jazz à Juan, one of Europe's oldest and most atmospheric jazz festivals. Miles Davis, Ray Charles and Ella Fitzgerald all played here; today the lineup mixes jazz legends with contemporary world-music acts.
The Pinède Gould Setting
The open-air stage sits metres from the sea, so the sound of waves occasionally drifts through a piano solo — an effect that no indoor venue can replicate. Capacity is around 2,500, making it intimate enough to feel close to the performers even from the back rows.
Umbrella pines filter the last of the evening light during early sets, and by 10 pm the sky above the stage is ink-black and scattered with stars. Bring a light layer; the sea breeze picks up after dark.
Tickets, Fringe & Free Stages
Main-stage tickets range from €35 for emerging artists to €90 for headline nights and sell out weeks in advance — book through the official festival site (jazzajuan.com) as soon as the programme drops in April.
A free fringe programme called Jazz Off runs simultaneously across bars and squares in Juan-les-Pins and neighbouring Antibes, with up to 150 free concerts over ten days — a brilliant way to discover the festival atmosphere without spending a cent.
