Chez Juliette, Juan-les-Pins
Tucked on Rue de l'Esterel just back from the seafront, Chez Juliette is the kind of neighbourhood restaurant that Juan-les-Pins locals are quietly proud of — unpretentious, generous and rooted in the flavours of the Alpes-Maritimes. The terrace is small, the menu handwritten daily and the daube de boeuf Niçoise is the best on this stretch of coast.
What to Order
Start with socca — the chickpea-flour pancake cooked in a wood-fired oven and served in rough-torn pieces with cracked black pepper. It is a Niçois street staple rarely done well in restaurants, but Chez Juliette gets the char-to-softness ratio exactly right.
Follow with the pissaladière (caramelised onion, anchovy and olive tart) or, if the season is right, a plate of petits farcis — tomatoes, courgettes and peppers stuffed with herbed meat and baked until collapsing. The daube de boeuf, slow-braised in local red wine with olives and orange peel, is worth planning your whole day around.
When to Go & Local Tips
Lunch is the better meal here — the kitchen is freshest, the prix-fixe menu (two courses around €22) is outstanding value and the afternoon light on the terrace is lovely. Dinner in summer gets noisy and the wait for a table can stretch to 45 minutes.
Book ahead for weekends from June to September; mid-week lunches in May or October you can usually walk in. The house rosé is a Côtes de Provence and costs €18 for a pichet — order it without hesitation.
