Parque de La Polvoranca
Straddling the boundary between Fuenlabrada, Leganés and Alcorcón, La Polvoranca is a 230-hectare regional park built around a restored reservoir and a mosaic of reedbeds, meadows and pine woodland. It is one of the best urban birdwatching spots in the entire Community of Madrid.
Wildlife and Landscape
The Laguna de La Polvoranca attracts grey herons, great crested grebes, little egrets and — during migration — spoonbills and black-winged stilts. Bring binoculars in spring for the most dramatic sightings.
The surrounding meadows are managed for biodiversity, so wildflowers carpet the grassland between March and May, creating vivid splashes of colour against the flat Castilian sky.
Getting Around the Park
A flat, well-signed circuit of approximately 7 km loops the lake and woodland, making it suitable for cyclists, joggers and families with pushchairs.
Several wooden hides overlook the water at different points — the one on the northern shore gives the clearest unobstructed view across the lagoon, especially in the golden hour before sunset.
