Casco Histórico de Fuenlabrada
The compact historic core around Plaza de España and Calle Real is where Fuenlabrada's identity crystallises — low-rise 19th-century townhouses, a lively covered market, neighbourhood bars serving five-euro menus del día and a main church that anchors the whole ensemble. It rewards a slow, aimless walk.
The Streets and Architecture
The grid of streets between Plaza de España and Plaza de la Constitución is lined with traditional two-storey Madrid townhouses painted in ochre, cream and terracotta, many with wrought-iron balconies overflowing with geraniums in summer.
The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles on the main square is a solid 16th-century parish church with a distinctive brick tower that has presided over the town's comings and goings for five centuries.
Where to Eat and Drink
The bars along Calle Real and around Plaza de España serve classic Madrid tapas — patatas bravas, croquetas, pimientos de padrón — at prices that feel like a throwback to a pre-gentrification Madrid that the city centre has largely lost.
Look for the handwritten menú del día boards outside at lunchtime: three courses with wine, bread and dessert for €10–12 is entirely normal here, and the quality is consistently solid.
