Lamie di Olimpia Countryside Estate
A few kilometres outside town on the road toward Martina Franca, Lamie di Olimpia is a restored masseria (fortified farmhouse) surrounded by centuries-old olive groves and its own Locorotondo DOC vineyard. It's the kind of place that makes you cancel your return flight.
Why it stands out
Unlike the heavily marketed masserie near Fasano, Lamie di Olimpia remains genuinely low-key — a working farm first, accommodation second. The estate produces its own olive oil and wine, and guests are welcome to walk the groves, watch the harvest in October and November, and buy direct from the farm shop.
The architecture is a textbook example of Valle d'Itria rural building: a cluster of trulli and lamie (single-storey stone buildings with barrel-vaulted ceilings) arranged around a central courtyard shaded by a 200-year-old carob tree.
How to experience it
Even if you're not staying overnight, the estate welcomes visitors for a guided tasting of its olive oil and Locorotondo DOC wine — call ahead to book a slot. The 45-minute tour ends in the courtyard with bread, oil and a glass of white, which is worth the short drive alone.
For those who do stay, the lamia rooms are cool in summer without air conditioning, thanks to the metre-thick stone walls. Breakfast is served on the courtyard terrace with homemade preserves and local pastries from the nearby Pasticceria Renna in town.
