Cantina di Corte — Locorotondo DOC Wine
Locorotondo is home to one of Puglia's oldest DOC wine zones, producing a bright, dry white from Verdeca and Bianco d'Alessano grapes that pairs beautifully with the local seafood and cheeses. Cantina di Corte, a small family-run enoteca inside the historic centre, is the best place to taste it properly.
The wine and the setting
Locorotondo DOC white is often overshadowed by its flashier Puglian neighbours — Primitivo di Manduria and Negroamaro — but locals drink it all summer for its clean acidity and faint almond finish. Cantina di Corte pours it by the glass alongside a short menu of bruschette, burrata and salumi sourced from within 30 km.
The enoteca occupies a vaulted stone room off Via Morelli e Silvati, with a few tables spilling onto the lane in warm weather. The owner, a third-generation winemaker, will talk you through the DOC's history if you ask — and you should.
What to order
Start with a glass of Locorotondo DOC Verdeca alongside a plate of ricotta forte on toasted frise — the sharpness of the cheese and the crispness of the wine are a textbook local pairing. Follow with a tasting flight that includes the Locorotondo Spumante, a sparkling version that rarely leaves the region.
If you want to take bottles home, the cantina sells direct at cellar-door prices significantly below what you'd pay in a supermarket. A good bottle of Locorotondo DOC costs €6–10 here.
