Restaurant La Ferme des Houches
Tucked into a converted 18th-century farmhouse on the lower slopes of Les Houches, La Ferme des Houches serves the kind of Savoyard cooking that makes you want to cancel your flight home — whole Reblochon baked in its wooden box, house-made tartiflette, and a fondue Savoyarde that arrives at the table still bubbling. The room, with its low beamed ceiling and cowbells on the wall, does not feel sta
What to Order
Start with the charcuterie board: thin-sliced diots (Savoyard pork sausages) alongside cornichons and sourdough, then move to the tartiflette — a gratin of waxy potatoes, lardons, crème fraîche and an entire half-wheel of Reblochon melted over the top. It is generous to the point of being almost architectural.
For dessert, the tarte aux myrtilles (wild blueberry tart) made with berries picked on the surrounding slopes is the only correct choice. It arrives warm, with a jug of crème fraîche on the side.
The Wine and Cheese List
The wine list leans heavily and wisely into Savoie appellations: Apremont and Chignin whites from the Combe de Savoie are crisp, mineral and built for melted cheese. A carafe of Apremont at €14 is one of the better value decisions you will make in the Alps.
The cheese trolley — yes, a trolley — includes Beaufort d'Alpage, Abondance, Vacherin des Bauges and a rotating selection of local chèvres. Ask the server which producer each cheese comes from; they will know.
Booking and Getting There
The restaurant is a 10-minute walk from the Bellevue cable car base station, following signs toward Les Trabets hamlet. It seats around 40 covers and fills quickly in high season; book at least 48 hours ahead by phone or via their website.
Dinner is the main event here, but the weekday lunch menu (two courses, around €22) is exceptional value and far less crowded than the evening service.
