Bellevue Plateau & Col de Voza
Perched at 1,812 metres directly above Les Houches, the Col de Voza and the Bellevue plateau deliver one of the most unobstructed, crowd-free views of Mont Blanc's full western face — and you can reach it by cable car in eight minutes. This is where serious photographers come at dawn.
Getting Up to Bellevue
The Bellevue cable car departs from the centre of Les Houches village and whisks you to the plateau in a single stage, depositing you on a broad, flower-studded alp with the entire Mont Blanc massif filling the horizon from the Dômes de Miage to the Aiguille du Midi.
From the top station, a flat 20-minute walk west along a well-signed trail reaches Col de Voza (1,653 m), where the Mont Blanc Express narrow-gauge tramway crosses — you can ride it back down to Saint-Gervais or continue on foot.
The View Itself
What makes Bellevue special is the angle: you are directly opposite the Glacier de Bionnassay and the snowy dome of the Aiguille de Bionnassay (4,052 m), with the true summit of Mont Blanc (4,808 m) rising behind. No other easily accessible viewpoint frames this western approach so cleanly.
At sunrise the entire snowfield turns apricot-pink in a matter of seconds — alpenglow at its most theatrical. Bring a tripod if you care about photography.
Combining with a Walk
A popular half-day loop descends from Col de Voza through the hamlet of Bionnassay — one of the most photogenic stone-and-timber hamlets in the entire Haute-Savoie — before a forest path returns you to Les Houches in around 90 minutes.
The loop is rated easy-to-moderate and is suitable for fit families; the path is well-marked with yellow blazes throughout.
