Gorges de la Diosaz

Just 6 km from Les Houches in the village of Servoz, the Gorges de la Diosaz is a narrow slot canyon where turquoise water crashes through sculpted limestone in a series of waterfalls that reach 45 metres. A network of wooden walkways and bridges threads through the gorge at water level, making it feel genuinely adventurous without any technical skill required.

Inside the Gorge

The path winds for about 800 metres through chambers carved by millennia of glacial meltwater, passing seven distinct waterfalls. The roar of the Diosaz river is constant and the spray keeps the air cool even on the hottest August afternoon — locals treat it as a natural air-conditioning unit.

Mosses and ferns coat every surface, and shafts of sunlight pierce the narrow opening above to create theatrical light effects that make every photo look professionally lit. Children love the bridges that bounce slightly underfoot; adults love the fact that the whole circuit takes only an hour.

Practical Details

The gorge entrance is in Servoz, easily reached by car (free parking on-site) or by the Mont Blanc Express regional train, which stops at Servoz station a short walk away. The site is managed and well-maintained, with non-slip surfaces on the steeper sections.

Visit on a weekday morning in July or August to avoid the busiest periods. After the gorge, the pretty village of Servoz has a boulangerie and a small church worth a five-minute detour.
