Bellevue Plateau & Tramway du Mont Blanc
The Tramway du Mont Blanc is the highest rack railway in France, and its Bellevue stop delivers a front-row seat to the entire Mont Blanc massif without requiring crampons or a guide. On a clear morning the view stretches from the Aiguilles Rouges all the way to the Grand Combin in Switzerland.
A Terrace Above the World
The Bellevue plateau sits at 1,794 m and faces Mont Blanc almost dead-on, which means photographers get the classic snow-capped pyramid reflected in a sky that feels impossibly blue at altitude. The grassy alp around the station is dotted with gentians and marmots, and the walking is flat enough for anyone.
From Bellevue you can pick up the Tour du Mont Blanc long-distance trail heading toward the Col de Tricot, or simply sit on the restaurant terrace with a café crème and let the scenery do the work. Either choice feels like a win.
Getting There from Les Houches
The Tramway du Mont Blanc departs from Saint-Gervais-les-Bains–Le Fayet, about 12 km from Les Houches, but there is also a lower boarding point at Les Houches itself on the Bellevue cable car, which connects directly to the tram line — making this the most convenient high-altitude excursion from the village.
The cable car from Les Houches village rises to the Bellevue station in roughly eight minutes. From there the TMB tram continues higher to Nid d'Aigle at 2,372 m if you want to push further into the mountain.
