Stand at the very tip of the Balbianello promontory at dusk and you'll understand why every Como travel photograph looks the same — because this single viewpoint captures the full sweep of the Tremezzina, Bellagio's silhouette, and the Alps beyond in one effortless glance. No zoom lens required.
What You See
Looking north-east from the stone parapet, the twin horns of Bellagio divide the lake into its two southern arms — a geography lesson made gorgeous. On clear mornings the Grigne massif and Monte Legnone rise snow-capped above the water, adding an Alpine dimension that surprises first-time visitors.
Facing west, the Tremezzina villages of Tremezzo and Cadenabbia line the opposite shore in a ribbon of pastel villas and cypress trees. The light is softest in the two hours after sunrise and the hour before sunset, when the water turns from silver to molten copper.
Practical Access
The belvedere sits within the Villa del Balbianello estate, so you need a valid garden ticket to reach it. However, on Tuesdays and Thursdays the footpath through the grounds is freely accessible to walkers without a garden ticket — ideal for those who simply want the view.
The path from Lenno village is signed 'Balbianello' from the harbour square and takes about 20 minutes on a shaded woodland track. Wear shoes with grip; the final stretch over exposed roots can be slippery after rain.
