The ritual ends with a theatrical flambéed coffee ceremony that has been performed tens of thousands of times and never gets old.
The Menu & the Ritual
Every guest receives the same procession of dishes: antipasto, trout, chicken, cheese, and fruit — all cooked simply and honestly with local ingredients. There is no à la carte, no substitutions, and no apologies; the consistency is the point.
The grand finale is the 'burning coffee' ceremony: the waiter ignites a copper pan of brandy, citrus peel, and coffee with theatrical flair, then ladles the flaming liquid into your cup. It has been performed the same way since the restaurant opened and feels genuinely ceremonial.
Getting to the Island
A small private motorboat shuttles diners from Lenno's lakeside piazzetta to the island in about five minutes; the boat runs on the restaurant's schedule so you simply show up at the agreed time.
The island itself is historically fascinating — it was cursed by a bishop in 1169 and every building on it was burned; today the romantic ruins of the Romanesque church of Sant'Eufemia sit beside the restaurant terrace.
