Mirador del Fitu

Perched at 588 metres above sea level in the Sueve mountain range, the Mirador del Fitu delivers one of the most jaw-dropping panoramas in all of northern Spain — a sweeping arc of the Cantabrian Sea framed by emerald hills and the distant peaks of the Picos de Europa.

The View That Stops You Cold

On a clear morning the horizon stretches from Cabo de Peñas in the west to the headlands beyond Ribadesella in the east, with the village of Lastres itself visible as a terracotta-roofed wedge tumbling toward the sea far below.

The viewing platform is well maintained and signed, with orientation panels identifying the capes, towns and mountain summits spread before you — bring binoculars and you will pick out fishing boats threading through the harbour.

Getting There and the Drive Up

The mirador sits just off the AS-260 road between Colunga and Arriondas; the final kilometre is a narrow lane that winds through chestnut woodland, so arrive early in summer to snag one of the handful of parking spaces.

The road itself is half the reward — wild Asturian ponies (asturcones) roam freely across the Sueve plateau and often stand calmly beside the tarmac, making for extraordinary roadside encounters.
