Montecchio Viewpoint above Gravedona
Hike or drive the switchback road above Gravedona toward the hamlet of Montecchio and you'll be rewarded with one of the most panoramic north-lake views money can't buy. The entire upper arm of Lake Como — the Lago di Mezzola included — spreads below you like a relief map.
What You See From the Top
On a clear day the Rhaetian Alps form a jagged white wall to the north, with the Splügen Pass visible as a notch in the skyline — a reminder that this was a major Roman and medieval trade corridor.
The town of Gravedona ed Uniti fans out below in terracotta and cream, its church tower a tiny punctuation mark beside the silver water.
Look south and you can trace the lake's narrow western branch all the way toward Menaggio on a good day — a geography lesson and a beauty pageant rolled into one.
Getting There and Making a Day of It
The footpath from the upper edge of Gravedona gains about 250 metres in elevation and takes roughly 45–60 minutes at a steady pace through chestnut and oak woodland.
Alternatively, drive the Via Montecchio road and park near the small chapel at the top, which adds its own rustic charm to the scene.
Pack a picnic; there are no cafés up here, but flat rocks and meadow edges make perfect impromptu lunch tables with a view that a Michelin-starred restaurant would envy.
