Perfume Workshop at Galimard
Founded in 1747, Galimard is one of Grasse's three great historic perfume houses and the only one that lets walk-in visitors design a fully personalised fragrance in its Studio des Fragrances on the Route de Cannes. You leave two hours later clutching a 100 ml bottle labelled with your own name.
How the Workshop Works
A trained 'nose' guides groups of up to eight people through a palette of 127 raw materials — woody, floral, citrus, oriental — explaining how top, heart and base notes interact before you start combining.
You make real decisions: the exact proportions, the concentration (eau de toilette or parfum), and the name that goes on the label. The house then keeps your formula on file so you can reorder online from anywhere in the world.
What Makes Galimard Special
Unlike the larger tourist-facing workshops in town, Galimard's studio is attached to its working production facility, so on certain mornings you can smell the actual extraction vats operating — a heady, intoxicating backdrop that no purpose-built 'experience centre' can fake.
The house also runs a fascinating free self-guided tour of its production museum before the workshop, showing century-old enfleurage frames and original copper stills that give real context to what you're about to create.
