What you'll discover inside
The permanent collection spans 4,000 years of fragrance history across five floors, displaying rare distillation alembics, ornate perfume bottles commissioned by Marie-Antoinette, and the raw botanical ingredients — jasmine absolute, May rose concrete, tuberose — that made Grasse famous.
Don't miss the rooftop terrace garden planted with lavender, bitter orange and centifolia roses; it doubles as a living laboratory and offers a breezy panorama over the old town's terracotta rooftops.
Workshops and practical tips
The museum runs hands-on olfactory workshops where you blend your own eau de cologne using a perfumer's organ of 30 raw materials — book at least a week ahead in summer as spots fill fast.
Audio guides are available in eight languages and are genuinely well-written; the English version was updated in 2022 with new scholarship on the transatlantic perfume trade.
