Santa Eulària Hippy Market — Punta Arabí
Every Wednesday morning the vast grounds of the Punta Arabí holiday complex, just north of Es Canar, fill with more than 600 stalls selling handmade jewellery, leather sandals, ceramics and tie-dye clothing. Running since 1973, this is the oldest hippy market on Ibiza and the one that set the template for every artisan market that followed.
Six Decades of Counterculture Commerce
The market began as a genuine gathering of artists and free-thinkers who wintered on the island in the early 1970s, and while it has grown enormously it still attracts serious craftspeople alongside the souvenir sellers. Look for stalls run by the same families for two or three generations — you can often spot them by the quality of the leatherwork and the handmade silver.
Arrive before 10:30 to beat the tour-bus crowds and to have first pick of the best pieces. The inner lanes near the stage area tend to have the most original work; the outer ring closest to the car park is where mass-produced imports cluster.
Food, Music and the Full Experience
A ring of food stalls and small bars keeps energy levels up with fresh fruit juices, falafel wraps, grilled corn and the occasional live drumming circle that breaks out near the central stage around midday. It is a genuinely festive atmosphere, not just a shopping trip.
Budget at least two to three hours to do it justice, and bring cash — many of the best artisan stalls do not accept cards. A canvas tote bag from home will save you wrestling with armfuls of purchases in the midday heat.
