Piazza Vescovado Belvedere
Right in the heart of Ravello, the wide terrace beside the Duomo on Piazza Vescovado offers one of the Amalfi Coast's most sweeping and completely free panoramas — no ticket, no garden gate, just a low stone wall and the whole valley of the Dragon River tumbling toward Minori below.
The View Itself
From here you can trace the entire Valle del Dragone — a deep green cleft of lemon groves, terraced vineyards and pale stone villages — all the way to where it meets the sea at Minori. On clear mornings the island of Capri floats on the horizon like a mirage.
The piazza is framed by the cathedral's Romanesque bell tower on one side and the 11th-century Villa Rufolo's Norman tower on the other, giving every photograph an effortless sense of architectural drama without even trying.
When to Come
Early morning is magical: the valley fills with mist, swallows wheel around the bell tower, and the only other people present are locals walking dogs or fetching bread from the nearby forno.
The Ravello Festival uses this piazza and the adjacent Villa Rufolo gardens as its main stage from June to September, and watching a symphony orchestra perform here with the coast as a backdrop is an experience that resists all description.
