Cumpa' Cosimo

On Via Roma, the main pedestrian lane threading through Ravello's village, Cumpa' Cosimo has been feeding locals and discerning visitors since 1929 — four generations of the Bottone family producing hand-rolled pasta, slow-cooked ragù and grilled local fish with a matter-of-fact confidence that no amount of Michelin tourism could ever rattle.

What to Order

The signature dish is a mixed pasta tasting plate — seven different pasta shapes, each dressed differently, arriving on a single enormous platter. It sounds gimmicky until you taste it and realise every shape has been matched to its sauce with genuine knowledge: the paccheri in a slow tomato and basil, the scialatielli with clams, the fusilli with a ragù that has clearly been cooking since morning.

Follow it with the grilled catch of the day, sourced from Minori's fishing boats, dressed with local olive oil and a squeeze of Amalfi lemon. The wine list leans heavily on Campanian labels — the local Furore Bianco from Marisa Cuomo is an excellent match for seafood.

The Atmosphere

The dining room is all checked tablecloths, framed family photographs and the low hum of a room where everyone is eating rather than performing. Owner Netta Bottone moves between tables with an authority that is half grandmother, half general.

Book ahead in July and August — tables on the small terrace overlooking the lane go first and are worth requesting specifically when you reserve.
