Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Fuerteventura (MACUF)
Tucked inside the 18th-century Casa Mané, MACUF punches well above its weight, displaying works by Miró, Picasso and Barceló alongside cutting-edge Canarian artists. It is one of the oldest contemporary art museums in Spain and an absolute surprise in a city this size.
A fortress full of masterpieces
The building itself is a listed colonial mansion with thick whitewashed walls, inner courtyards and terracotta tiles that keep the galleries cool even in summer.
Permanent holdings span painting, sculpture and printmaking from the 1950s to today, with rotating temporary shows that regularly draw pieces from mainland Spanish institutions.
Budget at least 90 minutes — the labyrinthine layout means it is easy to miss entire wings on a rushed visit.
Why it matters for Fuerteventura
MACUF opened in 1991 and was instrumental in putting Puerto del Rosario on the cultural map of the Canaries, long before the island became a kitesurfing hotspot.
The museum also curates outdoor sculpture trails around the city, so the art experience spills into the streets — look for bronze figures near the seafront promenade.
