Torre del Homenaje Panorama
Climb to the crown of the Torre del Homenaje — the tallest tower of the Palacio Real — and Navarre unfolds beneath you in every direction: a vast, sun-bleached plateau stitched with vine rows, punctuated by the terracotta sea of Olite's rooftops and, on clear days, the distant snow-capped teeth of the Pyrenees.
The View From the Top
At roughly 30 metres above the old town, the tower platform gives you a true bird's-eye read of how the medieval street plan radiates outward from the castle walls. The geometric precision of the vineyards below is mesmerising — Navarre produces over 80 million litres of wine a year and you can see why.
Look north on a crisp winter morning and the Pyrenean peaks above Roncesvalles are visible with the naked eye. Bring a light zoom lens if you are a photographer.
Best Time to Visit
The golden hour before sunset in late spring and early autumn transforms the stone towers to amber and floods the vine rows with long shadows — this is when the panorama is at its most photogenic.
Midday summer heat can make the exposed tower platform uncomfortable; go early morning or late afternoon and you will have the railing largely to yourself.
