Portes du Soleil Mountain Biking
Morzine sits at the beating heart of the Portes du Soleil, one of the largest lift-accessed mountain-bike networks on the planet, with over 600 km of marked trails linking France and Switzerland across 12 resorts. Whether you're a nervous first-timer or a seasoned enduro racer, there is a trail here that will be the ride of your life.
The Trail Network
The Morzine-Les Gets sector alone offers over 100 km of waymarked descents, from the flowy green beginner loops on the Pleney plateau to the gnarly black-graded lines of the Super Morzine bike park, where the annual Crankworx Morzine event draws the world's best freeride athletes every August.
The iconic blue-graded Lac Vert trail descends from the Avoriaz plateau through dense forest to the valley floor — a 900-metre descent of 12 km that manages to be simultaneously accessible and exhilarating, with sweeping berms and natural rock features.
Gear, Guiding & Bike Hire
A dozen bike shops in the village rent full-suspension enduro bikes from brands like Trek, Specialized and Canyon for around €55–75 per day, including helmet and body armour. Pre-booking is essential in July and August when stock sells out weeks in advance.
For first-timers or those wanting to push their skills, the ESF Morzine and several independent outfits like Mint Snowboarding & Biking offer half-day guided sessions that introduce trail etiquette, braking technique and line choice on the mountain.
The Crankworx Festival
Every August, Crankworx Morzine turns the resort into a week-long festival of mountain biking with slopestyle competitions, enduro races and a pump-track world championship held on a purpose-built course in the village centre. Spectating is free and the atmosphere — part sporting event, part outdoor music festival — is electric.
Book accommodation six months in advance if you plan to attend Crankworx week; the entire resort sells out and prices spike sharply. The surrounding villages of Les Gets and Montriond offer slightly calmer (and cheaper) bases.
