Valle del Torrente Reginna — Sentiero degli Dei Approach
The valley carved by the Torrente Reginna Grande behind Maiori is one of the most accessible yet least-touristed green escapes on the Amalfi Coast. A network of ancient mule tracks winds upward through working lemon groves, chestnut woods and tiny hamlets toward the high ridge that eventually connects with the famous Sentiero degli Dei.
The Lower Valley Walk
From the northern end of Maiori's beach, follow Via Nuova Chiunzi inland along the river valley. Within 15 minutes the noise of the coast road fades and you are walking between dry-stone walls draped in lemon trees, their fruit hanging at arm's reach and the scent almost narcotic in May and June when the zagara (blossom) is out.
Small stone bridges cross the torrent at several points, and the water — cold, clear and fast-moving — is a genuine surprise after the heat of the coast. Local farmers still work these terraces by hand, and it is common to exchange a buongiorno with someone hauling a crate of sfusato amalfitano lemons down to the road.
Higher Up: Towards Pontone and the Ridge
Experienced walkers can continue upward on the CAI-marked trail (look for red-and-white waymarks) toward the hamlet of Pontone and beyond to the ridge connecting Ravello with the Sentiero degli Dei. The full ascent to the ridge gains roughly 600 metres of elevation and takes 2.5–3 hours one way.
Even if you turn back at the first major viewpoint — roughly 45 minutes from the beach — you will have seen terraced agriculture unchanged in centuries and enjoyed views back over Maiori's beach arc that no postcard has quite captured.
