Ristorante Il Faro di Capo d'Orso

Perched on the dramatic headland of Capo d'Orso just east of Maiori, Il Faro di Capo d'Orso has earned a Michelin star for cooking that is rooted in the flavours of the Amalfi Coast without ever tipping into tourist-pleasing predictability. The terrace, cantilevered above the sea, makes the meal an experience you eat with your eyes as much as your palate.

The Food

Chef Pierfranco Ferrara sources almost everything locally — scialatielli (the thick, short pasta native to the Amalfi Coast) arrives with freshly caught frutti di mare, and the crudo of local red prawn with Colatura di Alici (the intense anchovy sauce produced in nearby Cetara) is a signature dish that distils the whole coast into a single bite.

The tasting menus change with the season and the day's catch; a shorter à la carte is also available for those who prefer to choose. The wine list leans heavily into Campanian bottles — look for Fiano di Avellino and Falanghina for whites that match the seafood perfectly.

Booking & Practicalities

A reservation is essential, often weeks in advance in July and August. Request a terrace table explicitly when booking — the interior is elegant but the terrace, with its unobstructed view of the sea crashing against the cape's limestone rocks, is the reason to come.

The restaurant is accessible by car (small car park on site) or by taxi from Maiori — about 10 minutes and €10–12 each way. The SITA bus stops on the main road below, from which it is a short uphill walk.
