Maiori Main Beach (Lungomare Amendola)
Maiori owns the Amalfi Coast's longest natural sandy beach — a rare luxury on a shoreline dominated by pebbles and cliffs. Stretching almost a kilometre along the Lungomare Amendola, it is wide enough to breathe, backed by pastel-coloured palazzi and lapped by clear Tyrrhenian water.
The Beach Itself
The sand here is genuine golden-grey volcanic sand, not imported gravel, which makes it a genuine anomaly on the Amalfi Coast. Sunbeds and umbrellas are rented by the lido operators in the central sections, but free public stretches at both ends mean you can plant a towel without spending a euro.
Early morning — before 9 a.m. — the beach belongs almost entirely to locals doing their passeggiata along the seafront promenade. Arrive then for the best light, calm water ideal for swimming, and the sight of fishing boats still bobbing just offshore.
The Promenade & Town Edge
The Lungomare Amendola runs the full length of the beach and is lined with café terraces, gelaterie and small restaurants that keep their prices noticeably lower than Positano or Amalfi town. An evening stroll here with a granita di limone in hand is one of the coast's most underrated pleasures.
At the northern end of the beach, the mouth of the Torrente Reginna Grande meets the sea — a good landmark for orientation and a favourite spot for local children who paddle in the shallows where fresh water meets salt.
