Torre Mezzacapo Belvedere
Standing on the headland that separates Maiori from Minori, the 16th-century Torre Mezzacapo is a Bourbon coastal watchtower that now doubles as one of the finest free viewpoints on the entire Amalfi Coast. The 180-degree panorama sweeps from Capo d'Orso in the east all the way back to the cliffs above Amalfi town.
Getting There
From Maiori's seafront, follow Via Diego Taiani eastward along the coast road for roughly 700 metres until you see the signed path climbing left toward the headland. The walk from town takes about 20 minutes on a well-maintained but occasionally steep track through Mediterranean scrub — wild rosemary, cistus and capers growing straight out of the limestone.
The tower itself is a solid square structure typical of the Spanish-Bourbon defensive network built along the Campanian coast to watch for Ottoman raids. You cannot enter the tower, but the grassy terrace around its base is the actual viewpoint and has natural stone ledges perfect for sitting.
What You See
To the west the view encompasses all of Maiori's beach arc and the valley behind the town, with the terraced lemon groves climbing the hillsides in vivid geometric patterns. On a clear day you can pick out the silhouette of Capo Palinuro far to the south.
To the east, Minori's compact little beach and its Roman Villa Marittima ruins are visible just below, giving you a bird's-eye sense of how tightly the coast's villages are packed into every available fold in the cliffs. Early morning light falls directly on this face of the headland, making it the best time for photography.
