Adamello Brenta Natural Park Snowshoe Trails

Encircling Madonna di Campiglio on three sides, the Adamello Brenta Natural Park shelters granite peaks, emerald glacial lakes and the last brown bears of the Alps. Strap on snowshoes in winter or lace up trail runners in summer and the park becomes your private wilderness.

Into the Heart of the Brenta Dolomites

The Brenta Dolomite towers — pale, almost lunar pillars of rock — rise dramatically above the treeline and are best appreciated from the Sentiero SOSAT, a classic via ferrata route threading between spires at around 2,500 m. Even non-climbers can ride the Groste cable car from the village centre to 2,437 m and walk the easy ridge path for jaw-dropping views of Cima Brenta and Cima Tosa without touching a rope.

In summer the meadows below the cables erupt in alpine wildflowers — gentians, edelweiss and mountain avens — making the plateau a favourite of botanists and photographers alike. The park's information centre in Caderzone Terme runs free guided walks every Tuesday morning from late June to early September.

Bears, Ibex and Chamois

Adamello Brenta is home to the LIFE Ursus reintroduction project, which has brought brown bears back to the Trentino Alps since 1999. Dawn walks along the Val Genova forest road — closed to private cars — offer the best chance of spotting bears foraging in the clearings, though chamois and red deer are near-daily sightings.

Val Genova itself is a UNESCO-recognised glacial valley lined with waterfalls, the most dramatic being the Cascata di Nardis, a 130-metre double-drop waterfall reachable in a 20-minute flat walk from the car park at Carisolo.
