Kaysersberg Christmas Market
While Strasbourg and Colmar draw the crowds, Kaysersberg's Marché de Noël consistently ranks among the most authentic and beautiful in all of France. Held across the village's medieval squares and bridge from late November through 27 December, it feels like stepping into a living Advent calendar.
What makes it special
Stalls are limited to around 40 carefully selected artisan vendors, so you find hand-carved wooden ornaments, local bredele biscuits and Alsatian pottery rather than mass-produced trinkets. The 16th-century fortified bridge and the illuminated castle above form a backdrop that no purpose-built Christmas village can replicate.
The market centres on Place du Général de Gaulle and spills along Rue du Général de Gaulle, with mulled Glühwein and hot chestnut sellers stationed at every corner. Evening visits after 5 pm, when the lanterns and fairy lights come fully alive, are magical.
Tasting and shopping highlights
Look for pain d'épices (spiced gingerbread) from local bakers, Munster cheese wrapped in fir branches, and bottles of Gewurztraminer from producers who set up pop-up stalls specifically for the market period.
The village's permanent wine cellars — including Domaine Weinbach just outside the walls — often open for extended tasting hours during market weekends, making it easy to combine festive browsing with serious wine discovery.
