Flieh Viewpoint on the Schlossberg Trail
Less visited than the castle itself, the Flieh belvedere sits on the forested ridge above Kaysersberg along the GR5 long-distance trail and delivers an unobstructed westward view over the Grand Cru vineyards of Schlossberg — the very hillside that produces some of Alsace's greatest Rieslings.
Getting there
From the village, follow the yellow hiking blazes up through the Schlossberg vineyard and into the oak-and-pine forest; the belvedere is reached in about 40 minutes at a comfortable pace. The trail passes between the vine rows, so in September you may walk alongside harvest teams picking grapes by hand.
The viewpoint itself is a simple wooden bench on a rocky outcrop, but the sight of the Weiss valley curving south toward Ammerschwihr with no pylons or roads in frame is genuinely breathtaking.
Combining with a longer walk
The Schlossberg trail connects northward to the Trois-Épis pilgrimage chapel (about 2.5 hours one way), offering a full-day ridge walk with repeated wine-country panoramas and forest picnic spots.
Returning to Kaysersberg via the vineyard footpaths in late afternoon, you pass the Domaine Paul Blanck winery entrance — a logical stop for a post-hike tasting of the Schlossberg Grand Cru Riesling grown on the very slopes you just walked.
