Le Buccin, Concarneau

Tucked just outside the Ville Close walls on the quayside, Le Buccin has been feeding locals and knowing visitors for years with straightforward, impeccably fresh seafood that lets the Breton coast do all the talking. No foam, no theatre — just brilliant fish.

What to Order

The plateau de fruits de mer is the obvious showstopper — a tiered tower of oysters, langoustines, whelks, crab claws and palourdes that arrives cold, glistening and deeply satisfying.

The daily fish specials, chalked on a board, follow whatever landed that morning at Concarneau's working port next door; bar de ligne (line-caught sea bass) with beurre blanc is a recurring highlight.

Finish with a far Breton — the dense, prune-studded baked custard that is the definitive Breton dessert and rarely done as well anywhere else in town.

Practical Details

Lunch is the better-value sitting: a two-course formule with a glass of Muscadet typically comes in well under €25, making it one of the most affordable serious seafood lunches on the Cornouaille coast.

Book ahead for Friday and Saturday dinner in summer — the 30-odd covers fill quickly and the kitchen doesn't rush, which is entirely the point.

The terrace faces the port activity; watching the trawlers unload while eating what they caught is a quietly perfect Concarneau experience.
