Chamonix Saturday Market (Marché de Chamonix)
Every Saturday morning the pedestrian streets around Place du Mont-Blanc fill with one of the liveliest outdoor markets in the French Alps — a colourful mix of Savoyard cheesemakers, charcuterie stalls, honey sellers and mountain-flower soap vendors that rewards an early wander before the cable-car crowds arrive.
What to Buy & Eat
The cheese stalls are the undisputed stars: look for wheels of Reblochon fermier, slabs of aged Beaufort d'alpage and creamy Tomme de Savoie, often sold by the farmers who made them. Pair a wedge with a thick slice of saucisson sec from the neighbouring charcuterie stand for an instant alpine picnic.
Honey from high-altitude wildflower meadows, handmade jams of myrtille (bilberry) and génépi liqueur distilled from mountain herbs are the best edible souvenirs — far more authentic than anything sold in the resort gift shops.
Hot food vendors sell galettes de sarrasin, crêpes and steaming cups of coffee, making the market a perfectly pleasant breakfast stop even in crisp autumn air.
Timing & Location
The market runs every Saturday from roughly 8 am to 1 pm, year-round, centred on the streets around Place du Mont-Blanc and spilling along Rue du Docteur Paccard. It is busiest between 9 and 11 am.
A smaller Tuesday market operates in summer with a similar mix of producers, useful if you miss the Saturday edition. Both are walkable from anywhere in central Chamonix.
