Mirante do Alto do Lajeado

While the crowds queue for the cable car at Morro do Elefante, those in the know follow a narrow, steep road out toward Santo Antônio do Pinhal to reach Alto do Lajeado — a tranquil, less-visited viewpoint that rewards the effort with an unobstructed sea of Mantiqueira ridges and a silence you simply cannot find in the centre of town.

A Different Angle on the Mountains

Unlike the city-facing view at Morro do Elefante, Alto do Lajeado turns its gaze outward toward the raw, forested mountain chains that separate São Paulo state from Minas Gerais — a vast, layered landscape that shifts from deep green to purple-grey as afternoon clouds build.

The access road is narrow and unpaved in sections, so a high-clearance vehicle is helpful; the reward is a viewpoint that often has just a handful of visitors even on busy weekends.

Pair It with Amantikir

The Lajeado viewpoint sits close enough to Parque Amantikir that combining the two makes a perfect half-day loop out of central Capivari — gardens in the morning, mountain silence in the afternoon.

There is no entrance fee and no infrastructure: just a natural pull-off, a guardrail and one of the most honest, unmediated views in the entire Serra da Mantiqueira. Bring a thermos of coffee and stay longer than you planned.
