Ruínas de Santa Mariña Dozo
A roofless 15th-century Gothic church surrounded by an ancient cemetery, Santa Mariña Dozo is Cambados' most haunting and most beautiful viewpoint. The open nave frames a rectangle of Galician sky that changes colour every hour.
The Ruin Itself
The church was abandoned after a plague in the 18th century and never rebuilt, leaving its granite walls and pointed arches standing intact against the wind. Lichen-covered tombstones crowd the floor of the nave, many bearing the crossed-anchor symbols of fishing families.
The site is the emblem of Cambados — it appears on the Albariño wine festival poster every year — and yet it never feels overcrowded. A low stone wall separates the cemetery from a small park where locals walk their dogs in the evenings.
Best Times to Visit
Late afternoon in summer turns the granite a deep gold and the cemetery shadows grow long and dramatic — ideal for photography. In winter, low mist sometimes fills the nave, creating an almost cinematic atmosphere.
The ruins are also the gathering point for the Festa do Albariño on the first Sunday of August, when the surrounding streets fill with wine stalls and the church walls are lit dramatically after dark.
