Río Urrobi Fly-Fishing Stretch
The Río Urrobi flows cold and clear directly through Burguete's meadows before joining the Irati, and its upper stretch is one of the most prized wild-trout fly-fishing rivers in northern Spain — yet outside the Spanish angling community it is almost completely unknown. The river runs over limestone gravel between alder-shaded banks, and you will very likely have it to yourself.
Fishing the Urrobi
The river holds wild brown trout and, in the lower reaches, some sea-trout. The upper beats near Burguete are designated trota sin muerte (catch-and-release) for most of the season, which has produced genuinely large fish — browns of 40 cm are not unusual.
Dry-fly fishing with elk-hair caddis or parachute adams patterns works well from May through July when the evening hatches are prolific. The best access points are the old stone bridges on the NA-135 just south of the village and the footbridge behind the Hostal Burguete.
Permits & Practicalities
Fishing permits for Navarre's trout rivers are issued by the Gobierno de Navarre and must be purchased online or at a licensed tackle shop before you fish. The nearest tackle shop stocking Urrobi-specific permits is in Pamplona (Deportes Aralar, Calle Comedias), but permits can also be bought via the official Navarre hunting and fishing portal.
Non-fishing visitors will still enjoy the riverside path that follows the Urrobi south from the village for 4 km through uninterrupted meadow and alder carr — a perfect evening walk with high chances of spotting grey heron, kingfisher and Pyrenean desman (a rare aquatic mammal).
