A'DAM Lookout
Perched on top of the 22-storey A'DAM Tower, this open-air observation deck delivers a jaw-dropping 360-degree panorama across the IJ waterfront, the historic canal ring and the flat green polder landscape stretching to the horizon. On a clear day you can pick out the Westerkerk spire, Centraal Station and the tulip fields of the Bollenstreek far beyond the city edge.
The Swing at the Edge
The deck is famous for 'Over the Edge', a pair of swings that arc out beyond the building's rim 100 metres above the ground — equal parts terrifying and exhilarating, and one of the most photographed experiences in the whole city.
Book a time slot for the swing in advance, especially on summer weekends. The experience lasts only a minute or two, but the adrenaline lasts considerably longer.
Sunset & Skyline Cocktails
The indoor Madam bar on the same floor serves craft cocktails with floor-to-ceiling glass views, making it one of the best places in Noord to watch the sun dissolve into the IJ.
Arrive 30 minutes before golden hour to claim a window seat. The western-facing windows frame the Westpoort harbour cranes silhouetted against a tangerine sky — a shot that rarely disappoints.
