Teatro Nestor sits on Viale Giuseppe Mazzini, a theater built where Frosinone once dumped its rubble — a patch of land the locals called 'Sbracone,' meaning something close to 'the scrap heap.' That origin gives the place a particular kind of civic pride: something serious and permanent rising from what was discarded.

With 1,000 seats spread across three halls, it ranks among the largest stages in Lazio, and over the decades it drew national and international performers to a provincial city that took its theater seriously. Right now, though, the doors are shut — a €6 million renovation is underway, the most significant work in the building's history.

💛 What travellers fall for

People who've seen shows here tend to mention the scale — you don't expect a room that size in Frosinone. Those keeping an eye on the reopening should follow the Nestor Theater Company, led by artistic director Kevin Arduini, whose announcements will be the clearest signal that the curtain is ready to go back up.

The story behind Teatro Nestor

The theater was completed in 1961, built by engineer Nestore Evangelisti on a site that had been used as a fill zone for construction debris — unglamorous ground that the city chose to transform into its largest cultural venue. Evangelisti gave the theater his own first name, a gesture that reads less like vanity and more like authorship.

For more than six decades it served as Frosinone's primary stage, hosting a program the city's mayor once described by saying it was 'more a theater than a cinema' — a distinction that mattered. The current renovation, budgeted at €6 million, includes structural work and acoustic requalification across all three halls, the most substantial intervention the building has seen since it opened.

The Cinema itself is old. The seats and theater itself is not nice. But at least the screen and sound of the theater are optimal.

I can't say anything about the theater. As for the multiplex, it's nice. I was in the "De Sica" theater, which was nice and warm. However, it was very small, and the seats aren't tiered. I'm only giving it three stars because the seats were really uncomfortable; I couldn't find any peace. But the prices are quite low, and the staff was very friendly.
