Parco Nazionale Dolomiti Bellunesi (Visitor Centre Belluno)
The Piero Rossi Cultural Center sits quietly in Belluno, a single room that tries — and mostly succeeds — at holding an entire mountain world in place. Maps, exhibits and trail information give you the shape of a park that runs from 412 metres at its valley floors to 2,565 metres at the summit of Monte Schiara, taking in waterfalls, medieval chapels, disused lime kilns and summer pastures along the way.
This is your starting point before the trails begin. Over 200 kilometres of CAI-marked paths fan out from here, including border walks with names like "The Path of the Lost Castles" and the long-distance Alta Via delle Dolomiti No. 1, all 125 kilometres of it.

People who come back tend to stop here first even when they know the park well — the staff update the trail conditions board regularly, and it's worth asking about the "Due passi alle porte del Parco" routes if you only have an afternoon. The Dolomiti Bellunesi Nature Museum at Piazza Piloni 25, a short walk away, fills in the natural history the visitor centre leaves open.

Protection efforts for these mountains date to the 1960s, driven in part by naturalists including Giovanni Angelini, Piero Rossi and Virginio Rotelli, whose advocacy slowly built the case for formal status. Italian Law 67 of March 11, 1988 set the process in motion, and on April 20, 1990 the Ministry of the Environment officially established the Parco Nazionale Dolomiti Bellunesi. The managing authority followed in July 1993, with the park becoming fully operational in 1994.
In 2009 the park's core zone — Pale di San Martino, San Lucano, Dolomiti Bellunesi and Vette Feltrine — was inscribed as part of the UNESCO Dolomites World Heritage Site. The visitor centre in Belluno, named for Piero Rossi, keeps that longer story accessible to anyone arriving from the valley.
Good to know
Belluno is reached via the A27 highway (exit Pian di Vedòia) and then the SS50. Dolomitibus runs services from the town into the park area. No entrance fee for the park itself. June through September gives the most reliable weather for trails; the visitor centre is a sensible first stop year-round.
Summers run 15–25°C with generally dry conditions from June through September — the practical window for high trails. Winters are cold and snowy from December through March, and shoulder months either side can drop near freezing at night, especially at elevation.

I will definitely coming back here! You can find a gorgeous views, hiking for everyone needs and also have a time you deserve. This is the place where all the problems automatically disappear!
What a stunning location! The views are just beautiful 360! Lovely walking, hiking tracks and cute tiny villages around. Drive carefully since there a lot of livestock roaming about. Make sure you come with extra batteries cos once you start clicking, you won’t stop.
A good and quiet place to visit. Amazing 😻 views on a Sunny day. The lake is beautiful and undisturbed. No people come there, drive along the way and enjoy.
With its lakes, its mountains, its local traditions, its gastronomy it is a place where you can do a lot of activities: you can have a ride on bike, do yoga and meditation near the lake, do hikes...you can stop in beautiful places where you can rest, eat or just take a look to the landscape. It's for me also one of the best place to do my profession of life strategist and coach.
Natural wonder. We barely scratched the surface with our exploring. Definitely would come back. We stayed in Sedico and it was reachable within a 10min drive. There’s so much area to cover!
