Lungomare di Maiori
The Lungomare di Maiori runs for nearly a kilometre along what is — by some measure — the widest beach on the Amalfi Coast, a fact that surprises most people arriving from the narrow coves further west. The promenade itself, officially Via Amendola, is shaded in stretches, lined with benches and the kind of low-key cafés where the coffee comes fast and the view is free.
What you notice quickly is that Maiori moves at its own pace. The Torre Normanna, a 1563 defensive tower built to watch for pirates, now looks out over rows of sun loungers. The majolica dome of the Collegiata di Santa Maria a Mare catches the light above the rooftops. It is a working seafront, not a stage set.

The story behind Lungomare di Maiori
The lungomare you walk today is younger than it looks. In 1954 a catastrophic flood sent the Reginna Maior torrent rushing through town, sweeping away much of the historic waterfront — and depositing enough debris to push the beach roughly 50 metres further into the sea. The town rebuilt around that new shoreline, which is why Maiori's seafront has a mid-century plainness that stands apart from its medieval neighbours.
The deeper history is older and less tidy. Maiori — ancient Reghinna Major — joined the Confederation of Amalfi States in 842, part of what became the earliest Sea Republic on record. The defensive towers along the coast, including the Torre Normanna (1563), were the practical response to centuries of Saracen raids after that republic dissolved and the town passed to the Kingdom of Naples.

SITA buses connect Maiori to Amalfi in about 15 minutes; ferries run the same route in 10 during tourist season. A half-day covers the promenade and a swim, but an overnight lets you settle into the slower rhythm. Beach club hire runs €30–50 for two loungers and an umbrella in high season.
Summer along this stretch of coast is reliably hot and dry, with the sea warm enough from June through September. Spring and early autumn bring cooler temperatures and fewer crowds — the promenade is at its most pleasant in May or October, when you can walk its length without the midday glare.

This is a picturesque seafront ideal for a steady stroll along the promenade. Maiori has long, sandy beach, the longest on the Amalfi Coast, overlooked by several cafés and bars. There are many areas a shady seating for admiring the views out to sea. There is a calmness here unlike much of the rest of this coast. The harbour at the far end of the promenade is frequented by ferries to almost all the towns and villages along the coast.
We had a lovely quiet holiday in Maori very central location away from the crowd's and very easy to get anywhere you want to visit by Bus or Ferry
I was told by a local to look for the blonde lady with the bike cart because she has the best ice cream and frozen lemon sorbe. We found her. It was amazing. It was fresh, refreshing, and great quality. If you are ever in Maiori, look for this lady to get amazing frozen lemon Sorbe and ice cream. You will not be disappointed.

Lovely, clean beach. Small areas that are free. Plenty of facilities. We hired a pedalo which was good fun - 20 euros for an hour (cash). Recommended.
