Juliet's House (Casa di Giulietta)
The courtyard at Via Cappello 23 is papered, almost literally, with notes. They cover the walls in dense layers — scraps of paper, Post-its, business cards — each one addressed to a woman who never existed. That is the peculiar gravity of this place: a medieval tower house belonging to the Dal Cappello family became, through a resemblance of names and the slow accumulation of legend, the home of Shakespeare's Juliet.
More than 50,000 letters arrive here each year, answered by volunteers who call themselves Secretaries of Juliet. The bronze statue in the courtyard has been touched so often that one shoulder gleams gold. The balcony above — the balcony — was assembled in 1939 from 14th-century marble fragments that had been sitting in storage at Castelvecchio as spare parts.

People who come back tend to book the first slot of the day, when the courtyard is quiet enough to actually look at the building. The interior earns its ticket price: the bed from Franco Zeffirelli's 1968 film is there, alongside Cosroe Dusi's 1838 painting of the lovers, and the Capulet Hall, where civil weddings are still held.
The story behind Juliet's House (Casa di Giulietta)
The building dates to the 13th century and appears in municipal records as early as 1351, when it was owned by the Dal Cappello family. The phonetic closeness of that name to Shakespeare's Capuleti was enough: by the 18th century the house had been identified as the Capulet residence, and romantic pilgrimage followed.
The Municipality of Verona acquired the property in 1905. Between 1939 and 1940, architect and museum director Antonio Avena oversaw its restoration, including the addition of the now-famous balcony — assembled from 14th-century marble fragments that had been held at Castelvecchio since around 1920, catalogued as architectural salvage. The bronze statue of Juliet in the courtyard was made by sculptor Nereo Costantini in 1972; the original has since been moved indoors, replaced by a replica that absorbs the daily wear of visitors' hands.

From Piazza Bra, walk Via Mazzini and turn right onto Via Cappello — about five minutes on foot. Since April 2026, entry is through Teatro Nuovo on Piazzetta Navona; tickets must be booked in advance at museiverona.com, including for VeronaCard holders. Weekday mornings and late afternoons are quietest.

Highly recommended to buy tickets in advance and make your booking early. Also recommend the €12 ticket if you wanted to see the house and experience the balcony. There were disgruntled tourists who did not quite understand what the cheaper tickets bought them. It’s crowded and busy but well organised and managed by the caretakers. Getting an image of the statue and balcony requires quite long waiting time as people clamber over it. Waiting camera at the ready for a moment for no strange faces spoiling your photos . It’s great to see romance alive and all in all a must see when in Verona.
It's ok, if you want a bit of a romantic balcony moment and you don't mind a huge dollop of capitalism in the mix. We went in June and every part of the building was baking hot, the staff all have fans or air con units near where they sit to give you an idea. With a little imagination and romantasising it's a bit of a couples thing but there are huge queues and tickets have to be bought online - there is no cash desk at all on site so if you just rock up like we did you will have to order tickets on your phone. I believe the price came in at just over £20
Casa di Giulietta in Verona is a really nice and romantic place to visit. If you are visiting Verona, you should definitely add this spot to your trip. The atmosphere around Juliet’s House is beautiful, full of history, love stories, and classic Italian vibes. Seeing the famous balcony in real life feels special, especially for couples. The courtyard can get busy during the daytime, but it’s still worth visiting for photos and the experience. Inside the house, you can explore the small museum, old rooms, costumes, and the balcony area. The staff were organized and the place was well maintained. It’s better to book tickets online before visiting because queues can be long during weekends and holiday seasons. Morning or evening visits are usually less crowded and better for photos. The location is also perfect because it’s right in the center of Verona, surrounded by nice cafés, restaurants, and small shops. A lovely and romantic experience in Verona ❤️🇮🇹
Look, honestly we bought only the courtyard ticket, which “includes” the theatre… the theatre is nothing special, the courtyard is cute and all but not worth 5€ plus the trouble of ABSOLUTELY HAVING TO grab it online. We went in because we wanted to grab a copy of Romeo and Juliet in the bookshop, which is also kind of hidden away on the ground floor of the “house” which is the museum part; they have about 5 editions and all in italian… I believe they could and should do better than that if they are gonna profit from a thing that’s not even italian to begin with. The people and service is very good, everyone is polite but the whole thing is just disappointing if you do not want to see the museum/house part of it all. Also all the souvenirs are tacky and just not worth the trouble.
Place get really busier. It’s good for people who are deeply invested in Shakespeare work. If you don’t want to visit museums it’s alright as courtyard entrance is free and that’s enough to see the balcony. There is is shop at the entrance and from there windows you can get some decent pictures as well.
