The first thing you notice stepping off the free shuttle boat from Sathorn Pier is the scale — 525,000 square metres of retail and residence rising from the Chao Phraya's west bank, its two towers (one 70 floors, one 52) catching the river light in ways that feel less like a mall arrival and more like a small city docking. Icon Siam opened in November 2018 and immediately reset what Bangkok meant by the word 'development.'
On the ground floor, SookSiam recreates a Thai floating market across all 77 provinces — the kind of place where you can eat a bowl of Chiang Rai noodles, then turn a corner and find Krabi-style grilled seafood. Above it, ICONLUXE's ceiling is lined with real gold leaf, and the 400-metre ICON Fountain runs along the riverside as the longest multimedia water feature in Southeast Asia.

The story behind Icon Siam
Icon Siam was announced in 2014 as a joint venture between three Thai heavyweights: Siam Piwat, MQDC Magnolia Quality Development, and Charoen Pokphand Group. The ฿54 billion project — roughly US$1.5 billion — was conceived around a design narrative drawn from the lotus flower and the Chao Phraya River itself, with London-based Benoy leading the interior design and Urban Architects on the overall structure.
The mall opened on 9 November 2018. The BTS Gold Line station at Charoen Nakhon, purpose-built to serve it, followed on 16 December 2020. The Apple Store — Thailand's first official one, designed by Foster + Partners in collaboration with Jonathan Ive and Angela Ahrendts — arrived as part of the original opening, marking the building's ambitions as something beyond retail.

The free shuttle boat from Sathorn Pier runs every 10 minutes, 9am–11pm, and takes five minutes — far easier than driving. BTS Gold Line (Charoen Nakhon station) drops you 206 metres from the door. The mall opens at 10am daily; individual venues like the cinema keep their own hours.

I think it’s safe to say that this is the best mall i ever visited. Its huge and it has everything. We didn’t even buy much. Just being there was an experience. Beautiful and clean toilets and hallways. Insane 15m indoor waterfall. Incredible number of food choices. If you are closeby, its must see, even just for quick visit and cooldown.

One of the easiest ways to get there using public transportation is to take the BTS Skytrain to Krung Thon Buri Station and then transfer to the Gold Line, which connects directly to the mall.
