Miguel Induráin Monument & Cycling Heritage Trail
Villava is the proud hometown of Miguel Induráin, the quiet Navarrese champion who won five consecutive Tours de France between 1991 and 1995. The town has quietly turned his legacy into a charming cycling-themed trail that most visitors to Pamplona never discover.
The Monument on Calle Mayor
A life-size bronze sculpture of Induráin in full racing kit stands near the town hall on Calle Mayor, his gaze fixed on some distant mountain pass. Locals leave fresh flowers here before major cycling races — a genuinely touching, unscripted tribute.
The nearby municipal sports centre bears his name, and a small display case inside the entrance holds replica jerseys and race photographs. Staff are usually happy to let curious visitors take a look during opening hours.
Cycling the Arga Greenway
The flat, well-surfaced greenway running along the Río Arga from Villava toward Huarte is perfect for a leisurely bike ride in Induráin's honour. Hire bikes from several shops in adjacent Pamplona and ride out here in 15 minutes.
The route continues upstream through market gardens and poplar groves, giving you a pastoral Navarrese landscape that feels a world away from the city noise. On weekends you will share it with local families on Dutch-style city bikes — the most Navarrese scene imaginable.
