Casa Marco — Galician Seafood Restaurant
A no-nonsense Casco Vello institution that has been feeding Vigo's fishermen, lawyers and visiting food writers since 1949, Casa Marco is the place to sit down to a proper Galician seafood lunch without tourist-trap prices or theatrical presentation. The product is the point.
What to Order
Start with percebes (goose barnacles) if they are on the day's list — these prehistoric-looking crustaceans from the Costa da Morte are boiled in seawater and eaten standing up in most bars, but here you get them at a table with a cloth napkin. They taste of pure, cold Atlantic ocean.
Follow with a half-ración of zamburiñas (queen scallops) grilled in their shells with garlic and parsley, then the grilled rodaballo (turbot) if your budget allows — this is one of the finest fish in Galician waters and the estuary version is exceptional. A bottle of Rías Baixas Albariño is non-negotiable.
The Atmosphere & Practicalities
The room is all white tiles, wooden tables and the kind of cheerful, efficient service that makes you feel like a regular on your first visit. Lunch (2–4 pm) is the main event in Galicia; dinner here is quieter but equally good.
Expect to spend €30–45 per person with wine for a full meal. Reservations are strongly recommended at weekends; on weekdays a walk-in at 2 pm usually works. The address is Rúa do Pescado, right on the edge of the old town near the port.
