Cim d'Àligues & Torre del Palau Viewpoint
Climb to the ridge above the old town and the entire Vallès Occidental plain unfolds before you — from the Montserrat massif in the west to the first foothills of the Pyrenees in the north. It costs nothing and takes about 20 minutes on foot from the city centre.
The ridge walk above the old town
The path up to Cim d'Àligues starts near the Torre del Palau, a 12th-century defensive tower that still stands at the edge of the old town. The route winds through pine scrub and rocky outcrops, passing several miradors with benches where locals come at dusk to watch the sun drop behind Montserrat.
The highest point sits at roughly 320 metres and rewards you with a 180-degree sweep: Terrassa's Modernista factory chimneys in the foreground, the Llobregat valley beyond and, on clear winter days, the snow-capped peaks of the Pyrenees on the horizon.
Torre del Palau: history at the trailhead
Before you ascend, spend a few minutes at the Torre del Palau itself. This squat, powerful Romanesque tower was part of a royal palace complex and is one of the oldest standing structures in the city. A small information panel explains its history in Catalan, Spanish and English.
The surrounding neighbourhood of Segle XX is quiet and residential — a good place to stop for a coffee at one of the small bars on Carrer de la Font Vella before or after the walk.
