Can Cortès & the Carrer de la Font Vella Restaurant Strip
Terrassa has a quietly serious food scene anchored by a cluster of family-run restaurants on and around Carrer de la Font Vella, where chefs cook the Catalan interior repertoire — slow-braised rabbit, salt cod with honey and pine nuts, crema catalana torched to order — without any performance.
Can Cortès: the local benchmark
Can Cortès has been feeding Terrassenc families for decades and remains the reference point for honest Catalan cooking in the city. The weekday set lunch menu (menú del dia) runs to three courses with wine and bread for around €14 — one of the best-value meals in the province.
Order the escudella i carn d'olla if it's on the board: a slow-cooked broth with pasta, chickpeas and mixed meats that has been the backbone of Catalan winter cooking for centuries. It's rarely found in Barcelona restaurants anymore.
The wider neighbourhood table
The streets around Plaça de la Font Vella host a handful of other reliable spots: Restaurante La Taula focuses on market-driven seasonal menus; Bar Restaurant El Racó de la Font serves generous tapas and vermouth from noon onwards.
On weekend lunchtimes the whole area fills with multi-generational family groups — grandparents, toddlers, teenagers — doing the long, unhurried Catalan lunch that is itself a cultural experience worth scheduling your day around.
