Tapia Surf & SUP School
Tapia de Casariego has quietly become one of northern Spain's most respected surf destinations, hosting international competitions on its consistent beach break. The town's surf school offers lessons for all levels right on Playa de Tapia, with instructors who have surfed this wave since childhood.
The wave and the school
The main beach break at Tapia works on almost any swell direction and produces long, forgiving lefts that are ideal for beginners while still offering punchy sections to keep intermediate surfers entertained.
The school provides all equipment — wetsuits, boards, leashes — and groups are kept small (maximum six students per instructor) so you actually learn rather than just stand in the foam.
Beyond surfing
Stand-up paddleboarding tours along the base of the cliffs are offered on calm mornings, giving you a sea-level perspective of the rock formations and sea caves that are invisible from the shore above.
The school also runs guided kayak sessions into the sea caves east of the port, a genuinely thrilling hour that requires no previous experience and rewards you with cathedral-like chambers of dripping basalt.
