Casa Consuelo Restaurant

Casa Consuelo in nearby Ortigueira road corridor — but beloved by Tapia locals — has been serving the finest percebes, nécoras and grilled turbot on the Costa Verde for nearly a century. This is the kind of place where the fish arrived in the port that same morning and the chef sees no reason to complicate things further.

What to order

Start with percebes (goose barnacles) steamed in seawater — they arrive at the table still steaming in a white cloth and taste of pure Atlantic brine; it is the single most honest bite of food on this coastline.

Follow with a whole rodaballo (turbot) grilled over embers and finished with a splash of local olive oil and sea salt. The flesh is firm, sweet and completely unfussy, exactly as it should be.

The atmosphere and local context

The dining room is unpretentious — tiled walls, paper tablecloths, the clatter of ceramic — but the service is knowledgeable and warm, the kind of place where the owner will tell you which boats brought the catch.

Pair everything with an Albariño from across the Galician border, just a few kilometres away; the mineral, citrus-bright wine cuts through the richness of the shellfish perfectly.
