Mirador de la Atalaya
Perched on the headland just above the port, the Mirador de la Atalaya delivers a sweeping panorama of the Cantabrian Sea that stretches from the rocky islets of Tapia all the way to the Galician coast on clear days. Come at golden hour and the Atlantic turns molten copper right before your eyes.
What you will see
From the iron railing you look straight down onto the fishing harbour where colourful trawlers bob beside the old stone quay, giving you a perfect bird's-eye composition that photographers adore.
On the western horizon the cliffs of the Costa Verde roll away in successive headlands, each one a deeper shade of green, while surfers dot the break below like slow-moving confetti.
Getting there and timing
The mirador is a ten-minute walk uphill from the town centre along Calle del Muelle — follow the signs for 'Puerto' and keep climbing past the whitewashed houses.
Sunrise visits reward early risers with mist-wrapped cliffs and almost no other visitors; sunset draws a small, convivial crowd of locals who bring cider and fold-out chairs.
